Mitsuko Ito

Mitsuko Ito grew up in Tokyo and moved to the United States as an adult. She has been trying to instill in her children one important lesson. “Respect is definitely a big part of the Japanese culture. We are very careful to maintain the harmony and peace of the collective.”

Mitsuko Ito grew up in Tokyo and moved to the United States as an adult. The wisdom she gleamed from her Japanese grandparents, in-laws, and culture greatly influenced the path she has traveled both professionally and as a parent. Mitsuko is a certified EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Tapping practitioner and holds a massage therapy license. “My western training was helpful, but when I incorporated the oriental concepts into my practice my client’s healing reached a new depth.”

Mitsuko has lived in Decatur with her husband and four school-aged children since 2011. “I love living in Decatur because of the proximity to neighbors and the open mindedness of the people. Sometimes my kids do feel the pressure of being a minority. There aren’t a lot of Asian people in Decatur so it is harder to feel that solidarity. If we had placed ourselves amongst an Asian community it would have been easier to pass down the traditions and heritage, such as food and language.”

Mitsuko has been trying to instill in her children one important lesson. “Respect is definitely a big part of the Japanese culture. We are very careful to maintain the harmony and peace of the collective.”
